York is nearly two thousand years old with impressive medieval fortifications and a magnificent Gothic cathedral, and withstands the invasions of millions of tourists with grandeur and aplomb.

 

The train station (once the largest in the world) is located to the north, just outside the city gates receives 25 trains a day en route for London, and has connections to Bristol, Cambridge, and Oxford Peterborough via Birmingham. Taxis, buses, and car rental are all available.
 

Manchester International Airport (a 2 hour drive), and Leeds/Bradford Airport, (45 minutes by car), are the closest to York.
