Many of Vienna’s imperial heydays remain and continued by the tradition-loving Viennese. When it comes to the arts, the glories of the past are preserved. Vienna is divided into 23 numbered districts. Taxi drivers may need to know which district you seek, as well as the street address. Vienna is a city to tackle on foot: A car is a burden, though useful for trips outside town. The public transportation system is fast, clean, safe, and easy to use.

Vienna International Airport is in Schwechat, about 19 km (12 mi) southeast of the city. Buses run every hour to the West Train Station and the South Train Station. The least expensive way into town is the S7 train, which shuttles every half hour and takes about 35 minutes.
