Seattle is defined by water, the weather is damp and skies are cloudy for much of the year. A major seaport, it is a vital link in Pacific Rim trade. A variety of fishing boats, floating homes, ritzy yacht clubs, and waterfront restaurants exist side by side. There is a convention centre, a varied music-club scene, top-notch ballet, opera, symphony, theatre companies, new hotels, and restaurants. Surrounding Seattle are the glorious mountains of the Olympic and Cascades and the seafood-rich waters of the Pacific Ocean..
