Art lovers call Salzburg the Golden City and music lovers know it as the Festival City -- birthplace of Mozart and home of the world-famous Salzburg Festival which has honoured Mozart with performances of his works by the world's greatest musicians. Salzburg where one can view the many beautiful Alpine peaks, lies on both banks of the Salzach River, The city of Salzburg is a symphony of both sounds and sights.

 

The Old City, made up of interconnecting squares and narrow streets, is best seen on foot. Trains, trolley and a bus service cover the rest of the city. Car rental is not advisable as the city is a pedestrian zone, and parts of the city have restricted parking zones.
 

Salzburg Airport-W. A. Mozart is located, 4 km (2½ mi) west of the city centre, and is Austria's second-largest international airport. Buses leave for the Salzburg train station every 15 minutes during the day, every half hour at night to 10 PM. Taxis are the easiest way to get downtown.
