The capital of the state of Bahia, Salvador, is built on the bay of Todos os Santos and its wide beaches and lush tropical hillsides. The city has preserved many of the splendid mansions and baroque churches of its golden age between the years 1500 to 1815.

 

There is no passenger train service to Salvador, but the city can be accessed by plane, ferry, and bus. There are three local bus terminals and taxis are freely available. Car rental is also available. Bus terminals: Praça da Sé to Barra and Campo Grande, a central terminus linking to the Rodoviaria, Itapoa and the airport, and Estação da Lapa running to all points in the city. The ferry terminals: the Terminal Turístico is located behind Mercado Modelo and serves launches and boat excursions, and the Terminal da Estação Marítima to the north of the city is for car ferries.
 

Salvador’s airport is located 20km northeast of town and is served by shuttle express bus services, and taxis.
