The largest of Thailand’s islands, this beautiful place with wide sandy beaches and golden sunshine is a tropical paradise, with all the mod cons of today’s world. The temples and architecture of Old Phuket reflect its Chinese heritage with delicate latticework, colourful ceramic tiles, and traditional motifs, but the shopping on this island is right up to the minute.

Car hire is a popular and inexpensive way of getting around Phuket, even though walking is the easiest and definitely the cheapest. The new green air-conditioned buses and the Song Taew blue open-air buses both run from town to the main resorts, and taxis and tuk tuks are available.

Phuket International Airport is open to all airlines, allowing direct access from other countries. Bangkok Airways situated on the opposite side of the peninsula, operate flights to and from Koh Samui, making what was previously a four hour drive and ferry ride, a short 25 minute dash.
