| NEW YORK and one thinks of towering skyscrapers and congested streets, not of the miles of rolling dairy farmland, colonial villages, lakes, waterfalls and towering mountains. North of Manhattan, is the valley of the Hudson River, with the Catskill Mountains, which offers a reprieve from the intensity of the city. The Adirondack Mountains attracts visitors due to its most enticing scenery. Few of the cities hold much of an interest, but smaller towns, like Ivy League Ithaca, can be quite charming while the spa town of Saratoga Springs attracts thousands of punters during the August horse racing season.
