| MONTANA, known as “Big Sky country.” This is no empty cliché as the entire state is blessed with a huge blue roof that complements it perfectly. The northernmost cap of the US Rockies is the region of snow-capped peaks, turbulent rivers, spectacular glacial valleys, heavily wooded forests and sparkling blue lakes, most spectacular in Glacier National Park. The eastern two-thirds is high prairie land, sun-parched in summer and wracked by icy blizzards in winter. Tourism is the second biggest income, though, apart from skiing, the harsh climate generally restricts the seasons to the months between June and September.
