home > Philippines > Manila

Having suffered devastation in WWII, Manila has rebuilt itself and is a vast neon bright city of skyscrapers, bars and entertainment venues, with a teeming population of exuberant partygoers. Used mainly as a stopover to other rural destinations in the Philippines, Manila has a friendliness and vigour that has its own charm if given the chance.

The many buses, taxis, and ‘jeepneys’ in Manila battle at peak hour with overpowering traffic snarls, and the Metrorail, or MRT, running above the choking fumes and fury of the roads is a better option. Car hire is available to the brave hearted, but not necessary with the excellent public transport system.

Ninoy Aquino international Airport is Manila’s main point of arrival and departure, but increasingly more airlines prefer the greater efficiency Mactan Island Airport at Cebu City.
