Malaga’s illustrious past has left its mark on the historic center, particularly around La Alcazaba, a fortress, which dates back to 1065 and is now an archaeological museum. Pablo Picasso is the city’s famed son and there are several galleries showing his work, including the 16th century Museum of Fine Arts. Calle Alameda Park is acknowledged as having the most botanical collections in Europe. Malagueños love their food and the bars and restaurants here are where the real social life takes place. As everything closes for the siesta period this is the perfect time to enjoy a long lunch.
