In KL, as Kuala Lumpur is known, gleaming skyscrapers and the world’s tallest building mix with colonial buildings, Little India buzzes with oriental mystique, and Chinatown clangs, clinks and bangs happily in its age-old tradition. With a population that has skyrocketed from a mere handful to almost two million people in 130 years it is one of the world’s fastest growing cities.

Kuala Lumpur’s commuter trains allow for day trips to Selangor and Negeri Sembilan states, but do not provide access to the usual tourist sites. Provided the driver is prepared to use the meter, Taxis are an inexpensive way of exploring the city.

Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is 75 km south of the city and host’s international arrivals and departures, as well as a few domestic flights. The high-speed KLIA Ekspres train reaches KL Central Station in 28 minutes, or if preferred taxis operating on a fixed-price coupon system are available.
