Key West's greatest historic charm is found just off the beaten path. The heart of the town offers party people a good time. Here, you'll find good restaurants, fun bars, live music, rickshaw rides, and lots of shopping. Key West is still very gay central point. The scene is extremely mixed and colourful. Then there is always the calm water of the Atlantic to relax next to. If partying isn't your thing, then avoid Duval Street at all costs. Instead, take in the scenery at a dockside bar or Oceanside.

With limited parking, narrow streets, and heaving traffic, it is an inconvenience to drive a car, consider trading the car for a bicycle. Key West is small and as flat, making it easy to negotiate. Scooters and moped can be rented, there are no helmet laws but is advisable to rent one, as hundreds of visitors are seriously injured each year.

Key West International Airport is on the southeast corner of the island. Visitors can fly into Miami International Airport located 7 miles west of downtown Miami, rent a car, and drive south to Key West. Transport to and from the Key West airport vary from shuttles, taxi and car rental.
