home > Turkey > Izmir

Ancient Smyrna, or as it is known today, Izmir, was decimated in the 1922 Turkish-Greek war, but has rebuilt itself and is home to almost three million people. Hot, booming, and very cosmopolitan, Izmir is a good place for some great shopping experiences.

Although the most of the main attractions are within easy walking distance, taxis and buses are available. Basmane station at the end of Fevzipasa Bulvari serves intercity trains, and buses, ferries, and shuttle trains from the airport pull in at Alsanack train station.

Izmir Airport has an hourly shuttle train, and Havas buses take passengers to the Efes Hotel, where there is also a tourist office.
