home > Greece > Hydra

The rocky and barren, but beautiful, island of Hydra is known for its 365 churches and monasteries, and its lack of motor vehicles. Here travel is by foot and donkeys carry your luggage.

Ferries, hydrofoils, and water-taxis are the main form of transport by water, and donkeys provide land transportation. This is a fact. Cars are banned on the island.

Athens International Airport is the nearest airport to Hydra, and the Flying Dolphin service carries passengers to and from Athens, or a ferry from Athens port provides and alternative means of reaching the island.
