Houston with its oil and gas industry is a business town, spread out by freeways, office parks, and shopping malls. But in undisturbed areas you'll find marshy grasslands in the south and woods in the north. First-rate museums including the world-famous NASA Space Centre, galleries, and performance halls, and its many ethnic restaurants add to the cosmopolitan flavour. Houston is known for, its architecture, a pair of towers in the Medical Centre unmistakably represents two giant syringes.

The Metropolitan Transport system operates a citywide bus service. Customer service staff will assist you with any specific destination. There are five free Metro Trolley routes that circle through the town. Taxis are plentiful in the city, but trying to hail one on the street can be frustrating. Call ahead or use hotel taxi stands. The prices for rental cars are inexpensive.

W. P. Hobby Airport, 7 miles south of Houston, served by domestic flights and George Bush Intercontinental, 23 miles north of Houston, is the international airport. Check which airport you will be using, as many airlines serve both. A metro Bus and Express Shuttle system provides transport from both airports to designated locations.
