Coimbra is a university town and in May when the academic year comes to a close is the best time to visit, when an air of craziness fills the streets and students celebrate. There are some wonderful examples of Romanesque and Baroque architecture to be seen.

The train station is located at Coimbra B which is 3km north of the city, and the bus station is on Avenida Fernão de Magalhães. The tourist Office is located in the Largo da Portagem and is open Mon–Fri 9am– to 5/6pm, Sat & Sun 9/10am to 1pm & 2.30 to 5/5.30pm.
