In 1994, Places Rated Almanac ranked Cincinnati ‘the best place to live in America’, and apparently, Winston Churchill regarded it as ‘the most beautiful inland city in the country’. With 19th century suburbs looking as they did back then, beautiful surrounding hills and the Ohio River in its backyard, Cincinnati is an attractive easy-going place to visit.

As it is such an easy place to navigate the best form of transport is Shank’s pony, but if you are not keen on walking, then public bus is the answer. Without doubt, nothing matches riding a riverboat along the Ohio, or for the romance of times past enjoy a carriage ride. For the purely practical taxis are available, cabs and rental cars are available, and the Greyhound Bus Station is on Gilbert St, about half a 1km northeast of Fountain Square. Amtrak keeps the train wheels rolling from the Union Terminal, a little over a 2km northwest of downtown.

The Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport lies 19km southwest of downtown on the Kentucky side of the Ohio River, and is a major centre for airline travel.
