home > Australia > Broome This popular resort town was put on the map with the discovery of nacre-lined shells known as ‘mother-of-pearl’ and led to the “Pearl Rush’ in the 1880’s.   There is no train service to Broome, but long distance buses stop at the tourist office on the cnr Bagot St/Broome Rd. Taxis and mini-buses provide ground transport, and car rental is available.   Broome International Airport is the air hub of northwest Australia and the terminal is located on McPherson Street.
