Now that Berlin is reunited, visitors can appreciate the qualities that mark the city as a whole. The stunning parts are in the historic east part of town, which has grand avenues, monumental architecture, and world treasures in its museums and the west with its new museums and cultural centres. The appeal has lain in its spaciousness, its trees and greenery, and vigorous atmosphere. Berlin over came its destruction from World War II, by the optimistic spirit and strength of will of the locals has enabled them to survive.

 

Berlin transport system consists of buses, trams, and U-Bahn (underground) and S-Bahn (elevated) trains. Two excursion buses make scenic spots accessible. Or rent a bike to explore the outlying parks and forests. Taxis cruise the major boulevards. Touring Berlin by car is not recommended as traffic is heavy, and parking is difficult.
 

Berlin has 3 Airports, the Tege, located 5 miles northwest of the city, Schönefeld the main airport for East Berlin and Tempelhof, 4 miles southeast of the city. Public transportation by bus, taxi, or U-Bahn is runs to all points in the city. A bus runs every 10 to 15 minutes from the airport.
