Known as ‘Charm City’, because of its citizens’ concern for and appreciation of the quality of country life. Positioned on the Patapsco River, it gives direct access to the Atlantic Ocean. The area now successfully combines business, shopping, hotels, restaurants and sightseeing. The water taxi service provides a good way to view the city’s impressive seafront skyline. The Maryland crabs are just one speciality not to be missed. A diverse range of famous names is associated with the city. Weather ranges from hot, sticky summers to mild, wet snowy winters.

The majority attractions are within walking distance or a short cab ride from the Inner Harbor. Beyond that area, a car is useful. The clean, speedy metro (subway) and light-rail lines are somewhat limited, and riding public buses can involve a number of transfers. Inner Harbor sites and other downtown attractions are best reached on foot or by water taxi. Otherwise, bicycles can be rented.

Baltimore-Washington International located 16km (10 miles) south of Baltimore and 52km (31 miles) north of Washington. Taxis, shuttle bus service and car rentals are available to and from the airport. It also has its own train station, connected to the terminal by shuttle buses, which serves Baltimore and various other destinations
