Set on the blue Nile River this ancient and southernmost Egyptian city is surrounded by desert sand and rocky outcrops. The river, lined with palms and green tropical shrubs, carries feluccas and their passengers past ancient ruins that Cleopatra must gazed on. Aswan has a relaxed ambience and is the perfect base for exploring temples of Philae and Kabasha, and other nearby attractions.

The train station is located in the north of Aswan, only five minutes from the Corniche, and the intercity bus station is located in the centre of town on Sharia el-Tahrir. There is a taxi depot to the south of the train station, although as Aswan is so compact, there is little need of them. Feluccas moor beside the Corniche.

The Aswan Airport is located 23km out of town and is served by taxi and the El Gouna buses.
