Amsterdam was home to geniuses such as Rembrandt and Van Gogh. Where an abundance of tulips and other greener, more intoxicating flowers and a united social zone, that takes in cosy bars, and outdoor markets. While impressive gabled houses bare witness to its Golden Age. One can enjoy its culture, history, and beauty, inexpensively. The Red Light District--as much a tourist attraction as the Rijksmuseum or the Stedelijk Museum or the sale of and marijuana in designated "coffeeshops." add to its ambiance.

Renting a car is a good idea for exploring. Most major sites are within the central district. All trams and most buses begin and end their journeys at Centraal Station, Bicycling is the most convenient way to travel. Rates are cheaper if you buy a huurfietskaart (bike rental ticket) in combination with a train ticket. Taxi stands are at the major squares. Water Taxis provide a different, if pricey, means of getting about.

Amsterdam Schiphol located 25 km southeast of the city and has efficient road and rail links. Rail Link operates between the airport and the city 24 hours a day. KLM Shuttle operates a bus service to and from the city. The trip takes about half an hour. There is a taxi stand directly in front of the arrival hall.
